How To Keep Posting When Your Life Is A Disaster

If your week is blowing up but you’re committed to posting weekly and staying on schedule, here are a two handy tips to help get you there:

1. Use the Seinfeld Strategy

I’ve used this with my singing students who didn’t want to practise.

Every time you do the thing you’ve committed to, you mark a little red cross on your calendar. In this case, every time you upload a video.

If you’re posting weekly, mark your upload day each week.

After a while, you’ve got a lovely line of crosses. You can see that you’ve kept showing up, and you want to keep it going.

It’s very satisfying. Especially when you remember what was happening during some of those weeks and realise you still managed to get something done.

Stick the calendar somewhere you’ll actually see it. Give yourself the pleasure of making that little cross.

2. Go for the low-hanging fruit

On the days when you just can’t be arsed, choose the easiest video you can make that still has something useful to say.

For me, that’s a talking-head video. I’m pretty practised at it from all the videos I’ve filmed over the years. I can sit down, hit record and talk.

For you, it might be filming yourself doing something, with no sound, then dropping a voiceover on top.

Boom. Done.

You don’t have to choose the idea that requires three outfit changes, six camera angles and an afternoon of editing when your life is already blowing up around you.

Save that one for another day.

And it doesn’t have to be long. If you can say what you need to say in three minutes, make a three-minute video.

Give someone a useful tip. Answer a question. Show them how you do something.

Then upload it, make your little red cross and move on with the fracas happening all around you.

Hope this helps!
